Then the Caller and the Answerer united and went up towards the Mother of Life and the Living Spirit; and the Living Spirit put on the Caller, while the Mother of Life put on the Answerer, her beloved Son; and they went down to the Earth of Darkness, to the place of the First Man and his Sons.

И сказал Человеку: “Мир тебе, о добрый среди злобных, свет среди тьмы, бог, живущий среди зверей, которые не знают чести!” И Первый Человек ответил ему, говоря, “Приди с миром, ты, который несет товары мира и спокойствия!”. Он также сказал ему: “Как твои родители, дети света, живут в городе их?” Призыватель сказал ему: “Они процветают”; и сойдя, он дал ему правую руку и вывел его из тьмы.

Затем тот, кто звал и тот, кто ответил, объединились и поднялись к Матери Жизни и Живому Духу; и Живой дух оделся в Зов, а Мать Жизни оделась в Ответ, ее любимого сына; и они сошли на Землю Тьмы, в место Первого Человека и его детей1.

Chapter 5. Creation of the Sky and Luminaries

Next the Living Spirit ordered three of his Sons, the one to kill and the other to flay the Rulers, Sons of the Darkness, and to deliver them to the Mother of the Living. The Mother of the Living spread out the heavens with their skins and made ten heavens, while their bodies were flung to the Region of Darkness and made eight earths. Then this Living Spirit created the universe and, having brought the three other Powers and gone down, he led up the Rulers and fastened them in the firmament, which is their sphere.

Then the five Sons of the Living Spirit were each one inducted into his work: the Holder of Splendor, who holds the five Bright Gods by their waists while the heavens are spread out below their waists; the Supporter, who kneels on one knee and bears the earths; and after the heavens and earths were made, the Great King of Honor sits in heaven’s center and keeps watch over all of them.

After having crucified the Rulers in the Sphere, the Living Spirit then showed his forms to the Sons of Darkness, and from the Light which had been swallowed by them out of these five Bright Gods he refined the light and made the Sun and the Moon. From Matter he withdrew as much of the Power as had suffered nothing much from the mingling, which in spite of the mixing retained its own virtue; so the Sun and the Moon came into being, the Luminaries that are remnants of the Soul. But what had come to appreciable harm became Stars more than a thousand and the all-embracing heaven. Of the Matter, then, whereof Sun and Moon were created, the part was thrown out of the universe and is that Fire which burns indeed but darkly and dim quite like Night.

Then again Matter of itself created the plants; and in the other elements, both plant and animal, in these the Divine Power is unequally mixed. Now the Evil Spirit by foresight knew that the Light, being attracted by Sun and Moon, would soon be purified and freed, so he planned this microcosm, such as humanity, cattle and other creatures, as an exact copy of the Macrocosm, together with the rest of embodied creation. The world is a bodily formation of the Evil Spirit, formed of the bodily elements of the Evil Spirit; from the mixture of both Natures, that is, of Good and Evil, the world has been made.
